Wadi Hasa to Petra

This trip was four consecutive days of supported hiking (ie a car met us each evening) except for the night in Wadi Hasa which can’t be reached by car.  The trip was:

Hasa Petra

  • Two days in Wadi Hasa, camping inside the wadi on the first night and camping in Feynan on the second night
  • Walking up Wadi Ghweir and camping in Ras Feid area
  • Walking from Ras Feid to Gbour Wehidat (north of Petra), camping where we arrived
  • Walking up Um al Biyara inside Petra

Wadi Hasa

We leave our car with Abu Ayman who delivers it to the exit of the wadi and drops us off at the start point, GPS points here.

Um al Biyara, Petra

The walk to the top of Um al Biyara from the base is only 45 minutes, but you have to allow time to reach there from the centre of Petra, and get down and hike out again.  The route up is very clearly marked and most of the way is on repaired Nabatean staircases.  Finding the starting point of the route up can be tricky, so the GPS points is here.   When you get to the top, make sure you recognize where the way down is before exploring, as it can be hard to find.
